Three Research Topic Ideas Proposal

Learning Styles

Problem:
People are all very different and learn in vastly different ways. I have grown up battling the educational system and have only recently found out why. I took an inventory of my educational skill levels and found out my learning style is quite different than the average mathematical/scientific/writing educational style. It turns out that everyone is different in their natural skills. In my eyes and the eyes of colleagues who live for improving the educational experience of children, there is a large void that makes learning more difficult for certain types of people.

Purpose:
To create a product to better inform children at a young age of their learning style and help them understand what resources are available to help them along in their journey.

Boys and Girls Club

I attended the Mid-Peninsula Boys and Girls Club as a child and I remember the good and bad things about being there for activities and learning experiences. For that reason I connect with improving the overall experience of attending children, their parents and the staff.

Problem:
The mid peninsula location needs a wayfinding system that is intuitive and apparent to the users of the grounds. It also needs a new front desk and entryway design.

Purpose:
To create a more inviting, friendly and reassuring environment that is user friendly and intuitive.

Problem:
The Daly city location needs a signage revamp.

Purpose:
To help children, parents and staff find their way around the premises since there is currently minimal/unattractive signage.

I am Julian Klein and my design interests stem from a desire to improve things around me. I wish to design products that make the lives of their users more simple to maintain. I am in the Industrial  Design program at San Francisco State University, with a concentration in Product Design and Development.

I have always been fascinated with incredible athletes. I myself have pursued skateboarding for over 10 years. It was a simple and accessible way for me to improve my skills in an athletic way. "Luck is the residue of design." - John Milton

Those who Influence me are hard working everyday men and women who do their best to improve the lives of others, not necessarily in design. Design is simply a means in which I believe I could effect the lives of others in a positive way.

The vision I have for myself is to live a humble life full of fulfilling responsibilities that influence people to do good things and work hard to build community.
